Bolivia Highlights
8 day tour
You'll need a couple of days to adjust to the altitude and we'll use those to wander the busy streets, plazas, markets and historical points of the centuries old city of La Paz.
We'll share the culture, and traditions with you including a Pena, the Mercado de Brujas the witches market, and other local lore.
The street vendors line every calle in the older section of town offering crafts, jewelry
clothing of Alpaca, and artifacts both authentic and reproductions. In one area each
street has it's specialty like vegetables, meats, hardware, plumbing supplies and more, making it similar to an enormous open-air shopping mall.
The Alto Plano is high, sparse and harsh, but very beautiful. You'll see it, and and the locals who live there as they struggle to make a living from this unique environment.
You'll visit Zongo Dam at the base of the impressive Huayna Potosi rising to 20,000 feet. Prepare to be awestruck at the vistas from this place.
You'll visit the ancient ruins from the Tiahuanaco civilization. This was a
sophisticated peoples who flourished long before the arrival of the famed Incas. Tiahuanco was the center of an empire that covered most of present day Bolivia, northern Chile and southern Peru.
You'll learn about their advanced agriculture systems, unique calendars, and experience the "listening stone" used by the high priests centuries ago.
Lake Titicaca. Magical, mystical, stunningly beautiful, eerily quiet, a sparkling gem in this high plateau. Amid the rolling grassy hills, and small villages, it is difficult to believe this placid scene is over 12,000 feet above sea-level.
By legend, the gods in the form of the Sun and Moon both rose from the lake,
and the Incas believed their gods and creators also emerged from the clear blue waters.
You'll see the famous reed boats and a village where they are built, the fishermen plying their trade as they have for centuries and we will take you to islands in the lake which are out of the usual tourist loop to view ruins from the Inca who once ruled this region.
With the Andes towering in the distance, and the complete lack of modern noises as you wander among the ruins, you begin to believe that time has stopped.
Combine this with one of our
to complete your brief Bolivian
adventure.
