Yunnan to Laos
A 15-day odyssey from Yunnan, China to Luangprabang, Laos
This 15-day odyssey follows the same itinerary as our
but instead of ending in Kunming, you'll
fly south to the tropical city of Jinghong.
Day 9) After exploring Dali Old Town, you'll take an evening flight to Jinghong. Overnight in Jinghong.
Day 10) A visit to Wild Elephant Valley. Take a cable car deep into the park, then follow wandering pathways on your return in hope of seeing some of this small population of wild Asian elephants. Later, relax and stroll through the Botanical Gardens, the largest in China.
Day 11) Morning departure by boat to travel the Mekong river to Chiang Saen, Thailand. Beautiful scenery through the river canyons of the "Golden Triangle". Overnight in Chiang Saen.
Day 12) Continue traveling on the Mekong river to our final destination of Luangprabang, Laos. This is a
very relaxing tropical town on the banks of the river. Numerous spas, bakeries, and restuarants for you to try in addition to the fascinating evening street market. Overnight in Luangprabang.
Day 13) A short drive takes you to Kuang Si waterfalls. There are two upper drops, then it cascades over small limestone steps for several hundred meters through the jungle. Free time to explore in town. Overnight in Luangprabang
Day 14) Travel up the river by longtail boat to the Pak Ou caves. There are two caves filled with Buddhas of all sizes, then a short hike to the village of Ban Xang Hai where you can visit a small factory making Lao-Lao, the local Lao whiskey. Many locally made crafts are also available. Overnight in Luangprabang.
Day 15) Departures. Luangprabang airport serves Hanoi, Bangkok, and Hong Kong.
